補血，止血，滋陰潤燥。
中文適應症
用於血虛萎黃，眩暈，心悸等。為補血之佳品。常與熟地黃、當歸、黃耆等補益氣血藥同用。
用於多種出血症。止血作用良好。對出血而兼見陰虛、血虛證者，尤為適宜。治血熱吐衄，配伍蒲黃、生地黃，如《千金翼方》治吐衄咳唾失血既多，虛倦神怯，配伍人參、白芨等；如《痰火點雪》治肺破嗽血，配伍人參、天冬、北五味子、白芨等；如《直指方》阿膠散，治便血如下豆汁，配伍當歸、赤芍等，如阿膠芍藥湯；治先便後血，配伍白芍、黃連等，如《醫林集要》阿膠丸；治衝任不固，崩漏及妊娠下血，配伍生地黃、艾葉等，如膠艾湯。
用於陰虛證及燥證。能滋陰潤燥。治溫燥傷肺，乾咳無痰，配伍麥冬、杏仁等，如清燥救肺湯；治熱病傷陰，虛煩不眠，配白芍、雞子黃等，如黃連阿膠湯；治熱病傷陰，液消風動，手足瘛瘲，配龜版、牡蠣、白芍、生地黃等，如大定風珠。
